Asphalt Milling — A-1 Asphalt Paving

Asphalt Milling

Removes the top layer of pavement to preserve grade and drainage.

Overview

What We Deliver

Milling grinds off the top 1.5"–3" of deteriorated asphalt so we can pave fresh without raising the elevation of your lot. That keeps your curbs, doorways, drainage inlets, and ADA transitions exactly where they're supposed to be. It's the right choice anywhere a straight overlay would create water-pooling or threshold problems.

  • Cold-planing with precision milling machines
  • Preserves existing grade and drainage
  • Reclaimed asphalt (RAP) is recycled — eco-friendly
  • Required before overlays in most commercial lots
  • Leaves a textured surface for superior asphalt bond

How We Work

Our Process

Every milling project at A-1 Asphalt Paving follows a proven sequence we've refined over 30+ years in the field.

1

Depth & Grade Survey

We measure existing elevations and map drainage flow to determine the correct mill depth.

2

Milling

Our milling machine removes worn asphalt in a single controlled pass, vacuuming debris as we go.

3

Sweep & Tack

The new surface is swept clean and coated with tack for the overlay to bond to.

4

Overlay

Fresh hot-mix is laid and compacted to match the original finished grade.

FAQ

Common Questions

Why mill instead of just overlaying?
Overlaying without milling raises your pavement elevation — which can block drains, bury curbs, and create trip hazards at doorways.
Is the old asphalt wasted?
Not at all. Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is recycled into new mixes. Milling is the greenest option in commercial paving.
How loud is milling?
It's a heavy construction operation. We coordinate hours with your business so we don't disrupt customers or tenants.
